A Hoverboards Very First Charge

Okay, so I’ll preface this by saying that how long it takes for a hoverboard to charge will vary depending on the type of battery in your board. Actual brand or model hoverboard that you’ve purchased are also important factors.

For exact charging times, you’ll need to refer to your manufacturer’s manual.

As a general rule of thumb, though, that initial charge should take around 3 hours.

The first charge is a little different from charging your device in general.

You see, it is imperative that you allow the board to reach full battery for its first time of use.

After the first time, you can opt for quick charges if you need to. Also, you can unplug it before it’s fully charged.

This is not something you should do though for its very first charge.

How Long Does It Take For A Hoverboard To Charge?

How long does it take for a hoverboard to charge? Well, if you’ve treated yourself to one of the top brands, your hoverboard will likely take anywhere between 2-3 hours to charge completely.

Though again, this time period may vary depending on the make and model of the board along with its size. A larger board will take longer to charge than a smaller one.

It’s really important that you keep an eye on this time and don’t leave it on for much longer.

This is because overcharging a hoverboard can actually be quite detrimental to the lifespan of the battery.

You will know that the battery has reached full charge once the green light appears.

Once you see this light, you can disconnect your charger from the board and get to the good part – riding it.

How Long Will The Battery Last For?

Aside from knowing how long does it take for a hoverboard to charge, you should also learn how long the battery will last. This is actually quite a tricky question to answer because there are so many influencing factors.

As a general rule, once fully charged the hoverboard (see also: Why Is My Hoverboard Not Charging?) should last anywhere between 2-6 hours.

Again, depending on the battery you have, along with the make and model of the board, this value can vary.

But these aren’t the only factors that will influence your battery life. Let’s take a look at some of the other factors now.

How Long Does It Take For A Hoverboard To Charge

Riding Surface

If you are riding on flat, even, smooth surfaces that your hoverboard can move along easily, you’ll have a fairly long battery life. However, it can take extra power for the battery to push the board over uneven bumpy surfaces such as grass or gravel.

Rider Weight

The weight of the individual rider can also influence how much power the battery needs to use to move. Typically, the heavier the rider the quicker the battery will deplete.

How The Scooter Is Handled

How you actually handle the board can influence how quickly the battery runs out. Obviously, the more caution and care taken, the longer the battery life.

The Weather

Even something as simple as the weather can affect the battery life of your board. Usually, the battery won’t last as long in higher and hotter temperatures.

How Often You Start And Stop

The number of times that you start and stop the board can also affect the battery life. The more often you do it, the quicker the battery will deplete.

As a general rule of thumb, though, you can expect to travel anywhere between 8 and 20 miles from a single charge.

A tip for you – always remember to shut down the board when you are not riding to preserve the battery.

How Do You Know When Your Hoverboard Is Out Of Charge?

You’ll be able to tell that your hoverboard is ready for another charge once the red light starts to flash. It may also start to make a beeping sound once the charge is reaching a critically low level.

Once the hoverboard reaches a low battery, you will no longer be able to ride the device. This is why the battery of the board is a very important consideration when making a purchase.

For some boards, the light may start flashing as quickly as 60 minutes into a ride whereas other models may last upwards of 3-4 hours.

Purchasing a more expensive board with a better battery is usually a good investment to make if you plan to spend extended time riding your board.

Final Thoughts

We, humans, aren’t always known for being the most patient, and when it comes to waiting for something you are excited to use to charge it can be one of the most frustrating and infuriating things in the world.

But, unfortunately, there’s not an awful lot we can do about it. Luckily, as you’ve seen in this article, hoverboards don’t take an excessive amount of time to reach full charge.

Typically, you can expect to wait anywhere between 2-4 hours for your board to charge, and from there you’ll have around 2-6 hours of fun before you’ll need to charge it up again.

And please remember to keep in mind that this information is based on a typical hoverboard.

The actual times may vary depending on the make, model, size, and battery type of the individual hoverboard.
