How To Calibrate A Hoverboard

Something a lot of people who have just gotten a hoverboard may not know is that these devices need to be calibrated occasionally to ensure that they work properly. So, how to calibrate a hoverboard?

How To Calibrate A Hoverboard

Hoverboards work using electronic sensors, and these sensors are what keep you balanced.

So, if these sensors are not calibrated correctly, then you will not be balancing correctly, making accidents a lot more common, and generally makes the hoverboard less enjoyable to ride!

However, knowing how to calibrate a hoverboard (see also: How To Calibrate Jetson Hoverboard) is often not that difficult, so keep in mind that if you are having issues it could be to do with your calibration.

There are also different methods of calibration depending on the type of hoverboard that you are using, so keep this in mind too.

If this guide on how to calibrate a hoverboard has not been helpful by the end, we recommend looking up the product name of your hoverboard. See if there are specific instructions on why your hoverboard might not be calibrating.

Also, we want you to keep in mind that the issues that you are facing with your hoverboard might not be related to the calibration and could instead be sourced elsewhere.

If your hoverboard is not balancing, however, you have already tried recalibrating it, then there is a good chance that the issue might not be with the calibration.

However, if you know that the calibration is causing issues, keep reading to get the insight you need on how to calibrate a hoverboard!

How To Re-Calibrate Your Hoverboard

While there are different methods of calibration for different hoverboards, there is a main method that will work for a lot of hoverboards (see also: How Do Hoverboards Work?) since most of them tend to have a similar design.

Firstly, you want your hoverboard to be on a flat surface and ensure that this is completely level.

The level which it is on is the level it is being calibrated for.

Also ensure that your hoverboard is turned off, so make sure it is turned off at the main power, not just in a sleep mode which can be a common misunderstanding!

Now once you are sure that your hoverboard is turned off and is completely level, you want to press and hold the power button until you hear it beep.

This usually takes about 5 seconds. Then the top or the front LED indicators will flash, when this happens let the hoverboard sit for about 30 seconds.

Once these 30 seconds are up, press your power button again and turn off your hoverboard.

This works for most models of hoverboards, however, some hoverboards do function slightly differently than others!

Bluetooth Hoverboard

When it comes to knowing how to calibrate a hoverboard, you must know how to calibrate the Bluetooth models. Luckily, even if you are using a Bluetooth hoverboard, these are usually calibrated in the same way a non Bluetooth hoverboard does.

However, it is worth pointing out that there is a little more risk associated with calibrating a Bluetooth hoverboard.

This is because if you frequently calibrate a Bluetooth hoverboard, there is a chance that you will fry your Bluetooth chip, and this could happen whether you do the calibration right or not.

So, for a Bluetooth hoverboard, we recommend finding model specific advice for calibration just in case!

With A Remote

While using a remote can help avoid a lot of problems that come with hoverboards, they can also cause a lot of the problems as well.

For example, since most of the people who use hoverboards tend to be between the ages of 10 and 15, there is a good chance that they will forget or not know that they should use the off button on their hoverboard, and will instead turn it off using the remote.

However, the off button on the remote usually does not actually turn it off and actually just puts it into a sleep mode

So, we recommend that you make sure that you are not leaving your hoverboard in a sleep mode for too long since this is more likely to cause calibration related issues.

Because of this, we even recommend trying to avoid using the remote for power related features, and try to use the actual button on the hoverboard itself more often.

This is how you recalibrate a hoverboard with a remote, and there is usually not a button for this on the remote!

Issues?

One of the most common issues that comes with recalibrating your hoverboard is that it will not actually fix the issues that you are trying to fix.

As we have mentioned, there are a variety of issues that can cause similar issues to an un-calibrated hoverboard.

One of the main signs of this is that the LED light is staying on for one side of your hoverboard.

In this case, the issue is less likely to be with the calibration, and actually more likely to be an issue with the gyroscope.

It is often that the LED only stays on for one side of the hoverboard, if this is the case, then try to replace or fix the gyroscope on the side which has the lights on.

Again, we recommend keeping your instruction manual close and safe so LED signals like this are easier to decode since the issue may not be with the gyroscope.

Summary

Hopefully this guide has cleared up any confusion you might have about how to calibrate a hoverboard.

This process is not too tricky, but it can be a lifesaver if you are having a lot of trouble with balancing on your hoverboard.

If your hoverboard is old, (see also: How Old Do You Have To Be To Ride A Hoverboard?) there is a chance that you might need to do this process more often since the older the hoverboard is, the more chance that it needs to be calibrated more frequently.

Also, if the advice we have given here has not worked for you, then we recommend trying our method of looking up your specific model online and looking for instructions if you do not have the instruction manual your hoverboard should have come with.

This will give you instructions that are tailored to your specific model and will be a lot more useful and effective than general advice that works with most hoverboards!
