Every electronic device has that one time when it malfunctions and displays some irregularities. Your Pride mobility scooter is no different. It is also an electronic device that can shut down if it encounters a problem. A Pride mobility scooter will only require a reset if there is something wrong. However, I understand that certain times these things happen at the worst possible time.
Hence, I have crafted this article to help you figure out what is wrong with your scooter and reset it in the process. So, let’s start: where is the reset button on my mobility scooter? The reset button on your Pride mobility scooter is at the rear end of your scooter.
When Should I Reset My Scooter?
Knowing how to reset your scooter is one thing; knowing when to reset the scooter is another. So when should you reset your scooter, you ask?
I recommend resetting your scooter when it only goes a few meters and then stops. If you notice that your scooter only covers a very short distance and halts, you need to reset the scooter. If it happens the first time, try going some distance with it again. But if it happens again, you should reset your scooter.
How Can I Reset My Scooter?
Owning a Pride mobility scooter is an achievement of a lifetime. However, you need to learn the proper methods to manage your scooter.
One of those proper methods you should learn is how to reset your Pride mobility scooter correctly. There are several methods you can use to reset your scooter. In the following sections, we will cover the various modes you can use to reset your Pride mobility scooter.
Reset Button Method
The most common reset method on a Pride mobility scooter is the reset button. Interestingly, you can only use the reset button if your scooter’s battery is low. If your scooter runs on a low battery, the scooter’s main circuit breaker will trip.
However, the trip is not necessarily a bad thing. The system is in place to mitigate damage to the motors and other vital electronics in the scooter.
When the scooter’s main circuit breaker trips, the entire system will go offline since it is all electric. This break in regular scooter functionality will cause the reset button to pop out at the rear end of the scooter. To use this reset method, the scooter has to pop out the reset button for you. Hence, this might not work in every situation. Why? Because the main circuit breaker needs to trip first before the reset button pops out.
However, if your main circuit breaker keeps tripping off after you have reset the system, I suggest you charge your battery immediately.
Freewheel Reset Method
You can also use a second method to reset your Pride mobility scooter. You can reset the scooter by engaging the manual freewheel crank. You can find this lever at the rear of the scooter.
Pushing the manual freewheel deactivates both the brake and drive systems. To complete the reset, you must re-engage the brake and drive systems.
You can do this by reversing what you just did and pulling the crank in the opposite direction.
Please note: while pushing the crank the first time, push it forward. And while you are re-engaging your systems, pull the crack backward. Pulling the crank backward will take your scooter out of freewheel mode. Additionally, there are a couple more things you have to take note of while you are engaging and disengaging freewheel mode:
Ensure you remove the key from the switch before you engage freewheel mode
Do not sit on your scooter while you are performing a freewheel reset. Ensure you are off the scooter before starting the process.
After finishing the first part of the reset, push the crank to engage “drive mode” to lock in the scooter’s brakes.
Do not perform this process on a slope.
Okay, you know how to perform the freewheel reset method, but why should you use it in the first place? A freewheel reset is helpful when you drain your battery and are not close to a charger. You can engage “freewheel mode” if you need to push your scooter for some distance.
Other Troubleshooting Tips You Can Try if Your Scooter Will Not Run
Your scooter might not be running for several other reasons you may not know about. This section is here to help you navigate the various other troubleshooting methods you can try if your scooter is dead in the water. This section will provide you with other troubleshooting tips you can use to get your scooter up and running again.
Check Your Battery: The First Troubleshooting Tip You Should Always Try
There are several reasons why your scooter is not working. But the most basic reason is your battery. Hence, once you are experiencing trouble with your scooter, I suggest you check your battery. Your battery should always be the first thing you check before trying other troubleshooting tips and hacks.
If you are not far from your scooter’s charging unit, you can plug in your battery to see if that is the issue.
Connect the battery to the unit and leave it until the charging meter indicates the battery is full. Ensure you use a standard charging outlet that carries the required current and voltage for a proper charge.
The Battery Is Full but the Scooter Still Will Not Run
If you have successfully fully charged your battery but the scooter still will not start, you can try this tip.
Ensure your key is locked in and the scooter is on. As simple as it may seem, you may forget to turn on a scooter after waiting for it to charge for so long. If the scooter is turned on but is not bulging, ensure you inserted the key correctly. Check and ensure you put the key all the way in and the key is facing “ON.”
