Hoverboards are fun mini-vehicles more and more people are purchasing each and every day. However, like with most electronic devices, hoverboards can break and face different types of issues that bring the fun to a halt, especially if it needs charging. However, what you should do if your hoverboard not charging?
There’s nothing worse than discovering that your hoverboard is not functioning as it should. If you have noticed that your hoverboard has stopped charging correctly then here are a few potential causes and solutions for you to try out.
Check out the list below and try out some of the solutions for hoverboard not charging. Hopefully, you will be able to fix your hoverboard and get it back in action in no time!
Step 1: Check The Charging Port
The easiest way to check if your hoverboard not charging is to make sure the charging port is free of any dirt or debris. Sometimes, the charging ports of all different electronic devices can become dusty or dirty.
This can affect the quality of your charge, making it more difficult for your device to charge properly – and it can be easily fixed with a little cleaning. When your hoverboard is switched off, blow some air into the charging port or clean it out with a light-bristled brush.
Don’t be too harsh or you may damage the components of the port and don’t use any water or water-based product. Try charging your hoverboard again to see if this has made a difference.
If so, then there must have been some dust, dirt, or debris in the charging port that was preventing your hoverboard from charging.
Step 2: Check The Charger
If there is no visible issue with the charging then check the condition of the charger itself. If there is any damage to the cable or adapter (broken wires, loose components, etc.) then it’s likely that the charger is the issue why your hoverboard not charging.
If your charger works at charging a different hoverboard, (see also: How Do Hoverboards Work?)then the issue is not with the charger. If your hoverboard charges fine with another charger, then your old charger must be damaged and needs replacing!
Step 3: Reset The Hoverboard Battery
If you cannot see any visible damage to the charger or the charging port, then it may be a technical issue. To solve this, you may just need to reset your hoverboard’s battery by removing it and putting it back in.
This is really easy to do and if you have your hoverboard’s manual it will be even easier. Find your hoverboard’s battery and remove it. Hoverboard batteries are made to be replaceable so it should be very easy to do on your model.
Once you have removed it, check it over to make sure it looks okay and there’s no mange. You should also check its voltage using a digital multimeter to ensure that is still giving out a voltage – like a car battery!
Hoverboard batteries should give out a voltage between 36V and 42V. Most hoverboard batteries will still function even as low as 32V but anything under 28V will not work.
If the multimeter is showing a voltage below 32V then you should definitely consider replacing the battery. If the multimeter is showing 32 or above, then try resetting it. To do this, plug the battery back into the hoverboard and hold down the power button for 10 seconds.
After this, the lights will flash and beep but continue holding down the power button until the hoverboard (see also: Why Is My Hoverboard Beeping?)turns itself on. Then, turn it off and wait a few seconds. Turn the hoverboard back on and that should fix the issue.
Try charging your hoverboard (see also: How Long Does It Take For A Hoverboard To Charge?)again and it should work once again. If hoverboard not charging yet, there is still something else you can do.
Step 4: Check The Motherboard
To do this step, you will need to take your hoverboard to an electrical repair shop. There they can check the motherboard for any signs of damage. Burned components or relays could be the reason why your hoverboard is no longer working.
Then, the electrical shop will be able to replace the components and your hoverboard should be back to normal. The only downside to this is that replacing parts of your hoverboard could be expensive.
Step 5: Replace The Battery
While your hoverboard is at the repair shop, they may also take a closer look at your hoverboard’s battery. It may be that you need to replace the battery entirely.
After a lot of use, every battery will eventually need to be replaced whether it’s in a car, a laptop, or a hoverboard – so it may just be that it’s finally time to replace your hoverboard’s battery.
If the repair shop has decided that the battery is the issue, then you will need to replace it. This, like with the motherboard, may cost you quite a bit of money.
However, you should avoid purchasing a cheaper battery that is not compatible with your hoverboard – not only is it unsafe to use, but it could cause serious damage to the rest of your hoverboard.
So, purchase the right battery for your hoverboard. After this, your hoverboard should be completely fixed and start recharging again.
Final Thoughts
Hoverboards can break just like any other electrical device but that doesn’t mean you can’t fix them. When your hoverboard not charging, the problem may be something small and easy to fix – like a dirty charging port or damaged charger.
If not, the problem may be something larger and more expensive like a damaged motherboard or worn-out battery.
These can be replaced but at a cost, so you need to decide if it is worth doing or if it’s time for you to upgrade your hoverboard to a newer model. We hope this guide has helped you out!
